Kevin Durant denies LeBron James is better than him

Another day, another jab thrown at LeBron James.

After Stephen Curry openly mocked his workout routine at Harrison Barnes’ wedding to the delight of Kyrie Irving, who has requested a trade out of Cleveland, Kevin Durant got in on the action.

On his YouTube channel, a fan suggested that LeBron is better than him.

“LeBron is better than you it’s just fax,” a fan named Joe Deezy wrote. 

“Nah,” was Durant’s short and sweet reply. Somehow, the Finals MVP saw the comment, and he wasn't going to let it slide. 

For what it’s worth, Durant earned the Finals MVP honor against LeBron and absolutely manhandled the Cavaliers in the five-game series. Under the bright lights, Durant averaged a ridiculous 35.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.6 blocks over 39.8 minutes. He shot 55.6 percent overall from the field, including 47.4 percent from beyond the arc and also converted 92.7 percent of his free throw attempts.

He scored 38, 33, 31, 35 and 39 points in what was one of the most consistently-dominant Finals performances in recent memory. No one could stop him, including LeBron. Also, Durant made a gigantic impact on the defensive end of the floor, making a number of high-impact plays while showing off his versatility.

However, James also had an amazing Finals from an individual standpoint. Averaging a triple-double with 33.6 points, 12.0 rebounds and 10.0 assists over 42.4 minutes, James shot 56.4 percent from the field and was able to deliver on the offensive end for his squad. While his role was slightly different than Durant’s and Cleveland’s offense was clearly inferior to Golden State’s as a whole, LeBron held his own and lived up to his lofty expectations.

The one-word reply sent by Durant to the fan came on the heels of praise that he threw LeBron’s way last week when reacting to Irving’s trade request.

"I really don't care about the Kyrie Irving situation," Durant said at a news conference on Friday in India via ESPN. "I just want guys in the league to be happy where they're playing and have some fun playing ball. So, wherever that is, for Kyrie, I hope he finds that. But LeBron James is a phenomenal player. I got a chance to play on his team in the Olympics in 2012, and learned a lot from him.” 

While the respect that Durant has for LeBron has been clear for a long time, it appears as though he feels that he surpassed the “King” as the NBA’s top overall player.
