Frank Lampard is tipping both Arsenal and Liverpool to miss out on a top-four finish this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side secured a return to the Champions League last season thanks to a fourth-place finish on the final day of the 2016-17 season.

Liverpool secured a long-awaited a return to Europe’s premier club competition after a 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Anfield to secure a top-four spot ahead of Arsenal.

The Merseyside outfit have signed three players in the summer transfer window but have missed out on some of their top targets, including Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk.

Arsenal signed Alexandre Lacazette in a club-record £52m deal from Lyon to improve their attacking options, while Arsene Wenger added Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac to his squad on a free transfer.

The Gunners suffered a 1-0 loss to Stoke City last weekend after a 4-3 victory over Leicester City to prompt criticism of the north London side.

Liverpool, on the other hand, were 1-0 winners against Crystal Palace following a 3-3 draw with Watford at Vicarage Road in their season opener.

Former Chelsea midfielder Lampard doesn’t expect Arsenal and Liverpool to finish in the Premier League’s top four.

“It’s between Tottenham and Arsenal for fourth place and I’d put Liverpool sixth,” Lampard told Arsenal Fan TV.

Arsenal will make the trip to Liverpool in their next Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon.
