Image
David Beckham With it being revealed recently that a Real Madrid wonderkid could have played for FC Barcelona, here are 10 stars who chose Los Blancos over the Catalan club! Tired of reading? Click through the gallery above to see 10 players who snubbed Barca to join rivals Real! Real star Marco Asensio scored twice against Barca over two legs in the Spanish Super Cup, and since making headlines across Europe, his agent, Horacio Gaggioli, has revealed he turned down a move to the Catalan club in 2013. Asensio is not, however, the only player to have chosen Los Blancos over their fierce rivals, with David Beckham being the biggest star to do so in the early 2000s. The Englishman was heavily linked with Barca in 2003, but according to former president Joan Laporta, the club felt Beckham and his team used them to attract interest from Los Blancos. 4 Chelsea Players who were criticised but scored in their first league match

Image
Chelsea fans didn’t need to wait too long to see Alvaro Morata open his account for the Blues as he headed home his first goal for the club shortly after coming on as a substitute against Burnley last weekend. The Spanish striker made an immediate impression by nodding in a cross by  Willian  almost exactly 10 minutes after he had replaced  Michy Batshuayi  in his first appearance at Stamford Bridge. While it wasn’t enough to help us salvage a point on the day, it was still a good start for Morata, who joined these former Chelsea favourites in scoring on his Premier League debut for the club. Tore Andre Flo, vs Coventry, 1997 If you thought Morata’s goal was quick, it was still nowhere close to the whirlwind strike by Tore Andre Flo had on his debut against Coventry on the opening day of the 1997/98 season. The Norwegian replaced Mark Hughes after 68 minutes at Highfield Road and got on the scoresheet just three minutes later, heading in a cross by Roberto Di Matteo....

Summer signings XI: the best Premier League transfers by position this summer

Forget Jordan Pickford, Ederson and Joe Hart – Brighton’s new shot-stopper may prove to be the best value of them all. Purchased for an undisclosed fee (believed to be around £6m), Australia’s No.1 impressed on loan at Genk earlier this year and will need to carry that form through to help the Seagulls survive their first year. Ryan made a howler in Brighton’s 3-2 friendly defeat to Atletico Madrid, but he’s much better than that – and at 25, the New South Wales-born glovesman still has his best years ahead. Following a successful loan last season, the Cherries’ permanent signing of Ake ticks every box. He’s young, versatile, knows the club, can pass out from the back comfortably and  can actually defend .  Having been capped twice by the Netherlands earlier in 2017, Ake is now in the right place to kick on and establish himself as a regular for club and country. At £20m, he's a player for the here and now – but also someone Eddie Howe can depend upon in years t...

He said ‘you don’t deserve these boos’. He knows how hard I work. Tonight was all about the W (the win) and I managed to sneak it,” Gatlin said after shushing the crowd.

Compared: the last signing in central midfield made by every top-six Premier League manager

Image
There is arguably no other position on the football pitch that encapsulates a coaches philosophy or tactical style as much as in central midfield. In the modern game, the position has been compartmentalised to such an extent that virtually every central midfielder is regarded as a specialist at one or two things rather than a master of everything. Taking that into consideration, how important are each of the Premier League’s top six clubs last central midfield signings to their particular sides and what do their specific roles say about their manager’s style? Chelsea (Tiemoue Bakayoko) How much did he cost?  £39.7m from Monaco. What role will he play?  Not so much an individual role as part of a formidably strong partnership alongside N’Golo Kante at the base of Chelsea’s midfield. Importance:  7/10  Antonio Conte took the brave decision to break up his title-winning midfield by offloading Nemanja Matic in favour of bringing in Monaco’s powerhouse Tiemoue Bakayoko. ...

Name the Starting Eleven - Arsenal (Community Shield)

The close-season has flown by and after a few fixtures in the Far East, Chelsea are back in the UK getting prepared to take on Arsenal, in the 2017 Community Shield. However, Chelsea could be without a number of key players for this clash with Eden Hazard, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Pedro all expected to be missing through injury. As has become the norm, we`re asking you to second guess how Antonio Conte might be thinking by asking you to select the starting eleven. Simply select the starting eleven you believe Antonio Conte will opt for and drop it into the comments facility beneath this article, you never know there might even be...

Why Xavi shoved Neymar in the face during Barcelona bus parade in 2015

Image
Neymar is on the verge of a move to Paris Saint-Germain following four years with FC Barcelona. The Brazilian forward is set to undergo a medical within the next 24-48 hours, according to reports from France, and a world-record transfer could be completed as early as this week. PSG are expected to trigger Neymar’s €220 million release clause, despite threats from Barça, who are reportedly prepared to report the Ligue 1 outfit to UEFA for an alleged breach of Financial Fair Play rules. Many Barça fans have lost respect for Neymar over the past couple of weeks, infuriated by his silence in the midst of intense speculation over his future. And they were further antagonised by the South American at the weekend when it was emerged that he’d spent 15 minutes inside the Real Madrid dressing room following Saturday night’s Clasico in Miami. Neymar was filmed walking away from Madrid’s dressing room with two Madrid shirts in his hands. Some Barcelona fans have even  compared him to Luis Fig...
